“Service broadens your vision,
Widens your awareness,
Deepens your compassion.”
– Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, through His universal teachings and divine compassion is the epitome of social service. At the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Scarborough, we seek to carry forth the mission of Sai by providing service activities for the old, physically challenged, the sick and the needy. Regarding every chance to serve as an offering to our Lord, we continue to seek opportunities to serve in various capacities.
Service Opportunities within the Centre
The Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Scarborough is founded on the principles of self-transformation and selflessness. As such, the Centre is run only through the kind hearts and commitment of many devotees and volunteers. Following is a list of volunteer opportunities that are available within the Centre.
Ongoing Service Projects in the Community
Weekly Narayana Seva
Our Centre members cook and provide 150+ vegetarian home-cooked meals to various communities in need in Toronto every Saturday. This is done in partnership with Toronto Co-op housing. We serve five different high-need neighborhoods and the food packages we provide are always received eagerly with gratitude. We serve monthly in each of the five communities. Volunteers prepare and pack pasta, rice, soup, vegetarian chilli, salad, samosas, fruit and a juice pack with a lot of love. For more information please contact Narayanaseva@saicentre.net.
Community Fridge Seva
This monthly Seva fills 4 Community Fridges around GTA with fresh and dry groceries. These community fridges are fighting food insecurities around GTA as they are available everyday for anyone to come and get what they need. This Seva is conducted on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Blood Donor Clinic
In partnership with Canadian Blood Services, our Centre organizes a Blood Donor Clinic quarterly. This essential service of collecting “Liquid Love” is truly a spiritual offering.
Food Bank
Non-Perishable vegetarian canned food is collected through the year and dropped off regularly at local food banks.
Tree Planting/Earth Day Clean-Up
Annually, we gather together to plant trees and clean up a park/area close to our Centre with SSIO Region 2.
Toy Drive
In partnership with the Salvation Army, our SSE students annually collect more than 600 toys during the month of December to share with children who are less fortunate.
Please contact seva@saicentre.net for more information or to participate in any of these seva activities.
